Mary, Mary, Quite Contrary...

I finally was able to take some pictures!
Tomatoes and broccoli, homemade tomato cages...
The sparser side! Carrots and garlic you can see; the other side had carrots too but the dog got in and destroyed them. Grrr. So I replanted more carrots, and finally bought some onion seeds too, which you can barely see starting to sprout. I also planted peppers but they have not come up yet.

Babies Babies Babies

Well, to start, I have been trying to post something new for weeks now but Marcos took the camera to the mountains and I haven't been able to take any new pictures. I was going to today, but then the camera died. Of course...

So now to the title of this post! Everyone is having babies this month! Except me. Ha. Anyway...my cousin Katherine had a baby boy last week, and my friend Amanda had one a few weeks ago, and then Hilary Duff had a boy too. It seems like this is the month for boys! My friend Dania had a boy at the end of February and we finally got around to paying her a visit today. She is living in San Francisco de la Paz, which is not quite an hour from Catacamas. It is also one of the most dangerous cities in Olancho. So we were a little nervous to go, but we went, and everything was fine. I was glad to see her and see where she's living, meet the father of her baby, meet the baby, and just see that she's ok in general. I had been a little worried about her, having a baby and being in a different city, away from her friends and family, and not knowing him, I didn't know how supportive he was. Unfortunately, as I mentioned before, the camera died before I got a picture of her. These are the only two that we got:
Leyla was so sweet, she gave him a hug and a kiss and smiled for a picture right when the camera died. :( She held him and then gave him back, saying "Pesa Mommy!" which means, he's heavy! His name is Diego Japheth. He weighs about 8 lbs already and has tons of hair - I think she said he's about 3 weeks old. He is a very happy baby and just cried when he was hungry; after she fed him he calmed down and just stared at us and was content! Not fussy at all! I wish we had been able to spend more time with Dania but we couldn't stay too long since the road isn't very safe. We stayed about an hour and a half. But she said she would come to Catacamas soon! She seemed to be doing well, but it was weird to see her with a baby because we only saw her once when she was pregnant. It didn't seem real that the baby was hers. Wish my camera hadn't died!!!

Sick Day

I am home sick today. Leyla had a fever a couple nights ago and last night I started feeling nauseous - weird, cause I never throw-up. Anyway I went to bed early and tried not to move. Then I woke up twice during the night to throw-up. It was not very pleasant!

Leyla came in bed with us too, and we both woke up all night long. I'm not sure if she still had a lingering fever or what. I know I had one too cause I had really strange dreams and was shivering off and on.

Leyla has been sweet this morning, though, asking me what's wrong and giving me kisses. I asked her to bring me some juice and she said, "Quiere jugo? Vaya. Ya voy. Esperense." And when she came back she had the whole carton of juice and gave it to me! It was heavy because afterwards she was touching her chest and saying "ay, ah." It was cute! Then she brought me my medicine to take and helped feed me breakfast :) What a sweetheart!

Overdue Video Update!

My Veggie Garden

I finally finished planting the garden. I transplanted all the seedlings and they are growing really well! I planted garlic too and they sprouted within a week, it was very exciting! I have to throw in a few pictures of my flowers, too. It is one of the highlights of my day to see a new flower or a new bud!

 Yellow Moss Rose
 I love these pink-orange roses!

So here it is! All fenced off and everything! I have a row of tomatoes, broccolo, more tomatoes, and an empty row for peppers, then garlic, and carrots (half rows).

Here's the garlic!

I can really tell how the broccoli has grown, but because of the heat here it probably won't produce a good crop. I planted it anyway. The tomatoes have adjusted now (some leaves were yellow) and they are growing strong too!
Purple Moss Rose
Marcos bought this flower for me when I came home from the US in 2010. It didn't spread like the other vinca, and it's my favorite! The 2 litters of puppies nearly destroyed it, so I took a chance and planted some cuttings. Lucky for me, the cuttings rooted, seeded, and now I have several new potted flowers, while the original is completely gone thanks to the dogs!

March is here!

I can't believe it's already March. Wow! Time is going by so fast! I have been so busy these past few weeks and haven't had a chance to update. At Predisan we had a surgery brigade, an optometrist brigade, and the Board meeting! I had so much fun with the surgeries; I wish I had had more time to observe, but, I got to observe one. I translated for the Ob/gyn during the consults and he explained the procedures and it was a lot of fun. There was an 18-year-old girl with a teratoma on one of her ovaries. He explained to me that teratomas are cysts that can have hair, teeth, and nails in them! He removed it laparoscopically and it was huge! It had hair in it! It was fun to watch, and I didn't faint! So I was proud of myself :)
I didn't realize how long it had been since I updated, and I have several pictures of Leyla, so here are a few random ones of her over the past few weeks.

This was taken the day that the Guifarro's water park and restaurant opened. We went over to their house afterwards and played on the trampoline!
Valentine's Day; I gave her a strawberry to dip in chocolate and this is how I found her 10 minutes later...
Swinging with Delia's daughter, Marcela, at Carmen's Despedida at As de Oro. They had a lot of fun playing together and I was soooo glad someone else brought their kids!
Being silly!
Leyla "washing"- she loves water and soap. I love this because she's on her tip-toes.
I let Leyla do my make-up, ha! We both ended up with mascara all over and concealer as lipstick...but she looks beautiful!
